Greenland Sea, Barents Sea & Svalbard, July/August 2019
Just got back from 5 weeks in the high Arctic, where the research vessel ACC Mosby has been my home and mobile work platform during this recent assignment for the Institute of Marine Research.
.
Together with an international bunch of amazing people, days and nights have been spent out at sea on the vast and remote water bodies of both the Greenland Sea and the Barents Sea.
.
Despite the very weather dependent areas we have been working at, we have been very lucky and treated with calm sea conditions most of the time, with mainly ice and fog as major concerns.
When conditions out at sea are a bit too choppy for us to continue the field surveys, we get to explore some of the many fjords of Svalbard.
.
The 24 hours of daylight seems appreciated also among the sunbathing locals who are enjoying the warmth of the late evening sun...
.
With Tromsø as start- and finish point I so get to enjoy this nicely situated town and its amazingly beautiful scenery also in summer time.
.
After a good month in the Arctic as far north as N80°, it is now time to head south for further ventures.
Thanks so much to everyone onboard Mosby for another great time together! I very much appreciate how boat-life so often bounds people and the wonderful souls I get to know during these kind of expeditions.
