Orust, West Coast of Sweden, Scandinavia
One of my favourite ways to get out on the water and explore is by stand-up paddleboard. It is both fun and peaceful, and a great way to take in your surroundings. Standing on the board gives an excellent vantage point, allowing you to see not only what is happening along the coastline above, but also beneath the surface.
In the area where I usually paddle at the Swedish west coast, I am often joined by curious yet shy harbour seals. They sometimes follow me from a distance for surprisingly long stretches.
Even though the seals are shy, I thought I'd try snorkelling with them.
Who knows, maybe I would be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of them underwater?
Here is brief footage from my first attempt:
They were indeed just as shy underwater, and the gloomy green water didn't make spotting them any easier. Even so, this little "sealventure" made my day, and I'll happily be back hoping for another chance to catch a glimpse of them beneath the surface :-)
